Erasmus Mundus

The University of Turku has actively participated in different Erasmus Mundus programmes funded by the European Union.

The Baltic Sea Region Studies programme took actively part in a project called Baltic Study Net II: Promoting Baltic Sea Region Higher Education worldwide. For more information, visit the web pages http://www.balticstudy.net.

One of the past projects was coordinated by the Coimbra Group. This EU-funded project BALANCE: Bologna - A long-term Approach to New Certification in Europe consisted of a series of seminars designed to strengthen the knowledge of European higher education systems and the Bologna Process in North America, and to reinforce links between international offices in both regions. The BALANCE seminar in Turku addressed following issues: the Bologna Process and its latest developments, joint degrees, doctoral level in the Bologna Process, employability, transatlantic higher education initiatives and cooperation as well as international aspect of the Bologna Process.

University of Turku is at the moment an associate partner in the EM Action 3 project TRANS-DOC - TRANS-Atlantic and TRANSferability aspectcts of DOCtoral training coordinated by the Coimbra Group, and covering cooperation with several Coimbra Group and North American universities.

 

Erasmus Mundus Action 2 projects at the University of Turku

Erasmus Mundus Action 2 mobility scheme (former Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation programme  EM ECW) aims to enhance the mobility of researchers, students and academic staff between the higher education institutions in EU and in the countries outside EU (so-called "Third Countries").
The University of Turku has coordinated one EMECW project with ten Russian and eight other European universities since 2008. The Integration, Interaction and Institutions - TripleI project got new funding for mobility starting in 2011. In total there will be ca 700 Triple I grantees from Russia to a university in an EU country or vice versa in 2008-2014.

Turku is a partner in the scholarship scheme for academic exchanges between Western Balkan countries and EU & Candidate countries since 2009. The JoinEU-SEE Consortium is coordinated by the University of Graz, and the project got new funding for mobility grants for studies and academic visits starting in 2011.

The third EMECW project EURECA concerned cooperation with India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the consortium comprised of 16 educational institutions (9 from Europe and 7 from Asia) and was coordinated by Mälardalen University, Sweden. The EURECA consortium covered study areas such as Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Business Studies and Management Sciences. All grantees were nominated already in 2008-2009.

The University of Turku coordinates one Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project, Triple I, and is a partner in five other EMA2 projects in five different Lots (geographical regions). In Lot 9, 11 and 12 the mobility grants are for applicants from Third Countries to EU partner universities only.  The application deadline of each project will be announced a.s.a.p., however according to the EU guidelines, the mobilities must start in December 2011 at the latest. In total these six EMA2 projects will have 1122 mobility grants for students and scholars. Most of them will be for applicants from Third Countries (in total 946 grants) to 28 EU universities, of which the University of Turku is one of the choices for the applicants.

- Lot 5 (Coordinator: University of Turku): Triple I - Integration, Interaction and Institutions - Grants for mobilities from Russia to Turku and to eight other partner universities and from EU partner universities to following universities in Russia: Higher School of Economics, Immanuel Kant State University of Russia, Irkutsk State University, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (former Kazan State University), Petrozavodsk State University, Russian State University for the Humanities, St. Petersburg State University, Udmurt State University, Ural State University, Yaroslav-The-Wise Novgorod State University.

- Lot 7 (Coordinator Universidad de Deusto): BMU -  Grants for mobility from Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine to EU partner universities and from EU partner universities to following universities: BELARUS: Belarussian State University; Brest State University; MOLDOVA: Cahul State University „B.P.Hasdeu", Moldova State University; UKRAINE: Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University, Dnipropetrovsk National University, Vassyl Karazin National University of Kharkiv, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, Taurida National Vi Vernadsky University.
