Exchange agreements

The University of Turku always has the best interests of itself and its partner universities in mind. Appropriate and beneficial educational programmes between institutions and the investment of resources are continually being considered when deliberating on future partner universities and exchange agreements.

When searching for new partners in cooperation, the University of Turku reviews its exchange agreements which are currently in force. Current exchange agreements and arrangements are presented on the International Office webpages.

University of Turku international exchange agreements are contracted in writing. Before agreeing to a contract, we ask if a multilateral international education programme is a good solution for the funding of an exchange. In that case, the contracts are made according to the requirements of the education programme (e.g. Erasmus or Nordplus agreements). In part, the contracts which are international exchange organisation specific to the faculties are made at the departmental level, and in part at the faculty level (e.g. The Faculties of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Law, and Education).

The faculty International Officers work with the contractual usage of their own faculty. The responsible Dean or Vice Dean of the presented educational programme signs Erasmus and Nordplus exchange contracts. The faculties receive the Erasmus and Nordplus contracts which are then copied and sent to the International Office.

Erasmus agreements

Teacher exchange agreements for the following semester must be signed no later than the end of the semester before i.e. in December for spring or May for autumn. Student exchange agreements for the following academic year are signed no later than December of the previous year. More important information can be obtained at the faculty in question.

The current contact information for Erasmus programmes and contracts can be found on the University of Turku Erasmus Institutional Data Sheet.

Nordplus agreements

The signer of the contract is determined according to the contents of the agreement and the practice of the faculty. The Nordplus operation is based on Scandinavian network cooperation. The yearly application deadline for the network is 1 February.

There are no bilateral student or teacher exchange agreements contracted with the universities of the EU countries for a very good reason: the educational programmes which rely on outside funding are usually enough for the implementation of the plans. If the exchange is a part of a joint degree, the dean of the faculty will sign the exchange agreements.

If it's a question of a country outside of the EU, sometimes either a faculty or university specific agreement is needed for the exchange. In that case the faculty International Officers will handle the agreements. If the contract is university-specifically drawn up, the International Office will handle the agreement.
