University of Turku among Top Research Universities
The Academic Ranking of World Universities 2010 has been published. The annual ranking lists the top 500 research universities in the world. The University of Turku is again among the top 400 universities.
- We have succeeded in maintaining our ranking very well despite the increasing competition between universities on both national and international level, says Keijo Virtanen, Rector of the University of Turku.
- The University of Turku aims at reinforcing its position as a research university according to its strategy, which was developed last year. The availability of resources imposes some constraints, but the ongoing fundraising will hopefully ease the situation.
A total of six Finnish universities made it to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2010 (ARWU 2010). The most successful was the University of Helsinki, ranked as the 72nd best university in the world. The others were the Universities of Turku and Oulu, both in top 400, and the Aalto University, the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Jyväskylä, all in top 500.
The ranking is based on indicators such as the number scientific articles published internationally and the frequency of references to research conducted in the university. The ranking is published by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
