The degree ceremony honours academic traditions
The 18th degree ceremony of the University of Turku is held on 26-28 May 2011. It is intended for all those holding a doctoral degree from any of the six faculties of the university or from the School of Economics.
A total of 19 doctors honoris causa and 118 doctors will be awarded in this year's ceremony. The three-day ceremony begins with the sword sharpening on Thursday and is concluded with a cruise on Saturday.

The most eventful day is Friday, starting with the conferment ceremony at the Turku Concert Hall at noon. The conferment ceremony is followed by the academic Procession from the Concert Hall to the Cathedral where the procession participates in the service. In the evening and into the night, there is a Degree Ceremony Banquet at the Turku Castle and a Ball at the Turku VPK Festival Hall.
- Nearly 300 doctoral degrees have been awarded at the University of Turku durin the peeriod 2009-2010. Organising one joint degree ceremony for the doctoral degree holders from all faculties emphasises the role and significance of the university, says Rector Keijo Virtanen.
